Counselling & Psychotherapy

Life can get too much sometimes and you’re here because something doesn’t feel right. Perhaps you feel low, or it's a time of transition or maybe there's some distress in an area of your life. The pace of modern life or sometimes your early experiences can promote the notion that you must try and deal with your difficulties by yourself, sweep them under the carpet or put on a brave face. You may have thought that if you keep going, one day you’ll wake up and your problems will have disappeared, but they haven’t. So now it's time to try something new; to seek some help.
There's a useful analogy, regarding lifting boxes when moving house. Any boxes that are too heavy to lift on your own, you simply ask someone to lift them with you - you probably wouldn't think twice about doing this. Feelings, emotions and problems can build up and become heavy, just like those boxes, and it’s a great idea to ask someone to help lift them with you, together.
Counselling and Psychotherapy offers a safe, non-judgmental and confidential space to help you unpack your boxes; talk about your problems and help you understand your emotional life better. This can include exploring your past; focusing on the present and your current challenges or your future by considering obstacles you may face in achieving your goals. It can be a mixture of any or all of these aspects of your life. This is something we can discuss and, together, decide the areas on which you'd like to focus.
My approach is kind, warm and open so you can explore your difficulties with respect and at a pace that's right for you. Sometimes I’ll be more challenging and direct to help you get below the surface and make sense of things that may be holding you back - but I will always be on your side.

As well as talking through your issues there are other techniques I can use, which are effective at helping you understand your problems better, such as: working with images, guided meditation and mindfulness.

About Me
I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, with a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychosynthesis Counselling, from the Psychosynthesis Trust, in London. Psychosynthesis is an integrative style of therapy, meaning I can utilise a range of recognised disciplines to better assist you and your problems.

A key principle of Psychosynthesis suggests that the symptoms of our problems can indicate a deeper meaning or potential trying to emerge in our lives. Our work together will try to discover what that might be. To achieve this I offer a focused approach for a specific issue in short-term work or we can go into more depth for work in the longer term.
My training is fully accredited by BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy), adhering to their Ethical Framework and therefore I am a Registered Member, fully insured and in monthly supervision.

First Steps & Fees
The first step is to contact me outlining a little about what's going on for you, via email or we can speak on the phone. This is to decide whether what I offer will be suitable for you. If I believe my approach is not best suited, I will endeavour to make a referral to a different therapist or professional.

We will then arrange a 50 minute initial consultation to discuss your situation further and this is also a chance to get to know each other a little, (charged at a 50% reduction).

If we decide to work together we will arrange eight, 50 minute sessions, weekly, after which time we will review to see if more sessions will be beneficial to you. This could be another set number of sessions or an open ended arrangement for longer term work.

My fee is £75-£95 per session (subject to time and location)

Testimonials
"I found therapy with Daniel revolutionary, as I tell my friends and family, it was the best decision of my adult life. Therapy enabled me to get in touch with my own feelings, feelings I never knew I had and use that to help me manage myself, my relationships with those around me and day-to-day situations. I feel it has made me a more rounded individual and it has helped me to always be honest with myself." Client feedback
“Daniel has helped change my life. Having experienced and initially “battling” things like depression, anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia amongst other things, I started therapy wanting to “get better” and get back to where I was before experiencing all these things.
With the central image of seeing my emotions and inner world as an “orchestra” (where it was safe to experience the full array of the emotions that makes us human), Daniel helped me navigate many different complementary disciplines alongside the central pillar of psychosynthesis (whether breath-work, spirituality, physiology, somatic techniques, inner child work etc). This helped create a sense of inner safety and awareness and allowed me to come back to my “true self”.
From a place of knowledge, experience and genuine empathy and compassion, Daniel acted as a guide to help me look down different avenues always leaving it up to me to take his suggestions and experience them for myself. The therapy has truly opened my eyes and has brought new meaning and purpose to my life. I now see that (as unbearable as it seemed at the time) I am fortunate to have experienced all those so called “hardships” as they brought insight and I emerged with a deep sense of peace and tranquility. To anyone who reads this, hang in there and feel it all. It will be ok and peace is on the other side.” Client feedback
